Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport

Despite the name, BHM is not an international airport, and anyone travelling internationally will need to make a connection within the US. BHM is to the North-East of the city, and is not connected to any public transportation but is around a 10-15 minute drive from the Downtown area or the Vulcan. Ubers and taxis serve the airport, and there are several car hire options.

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport

There are direct flights available between ATL and LHR, with a number of options daily from all major airlines. ATL is approximately a 2.5 hour drive from Birmingham, with several car hire options. Groome Transportation runs a shuttle service between ATL and the Hilton Birmingham at UAB, and UAB Blazer Hall.

Traveling I-65 North (from Montgomery):

Take I-65 North to Oxmoor Road exit # 256A. Turn right at the end of the ramp onto Oxmoor Road. Oxmoor Road becomes Palisades Boulevard. Travel on Palisades Boulevard until you come to Valley Avenue. Turn right onto Valley Avenue. Travel 1.6 miles on Valley Avenue. Vulcan Park and Museum entrance is on your left before the four way intersection of Valley Avenue and Richard Arrington Boulevard.

Traveling I-65 South (from Huntsville):

Take I-65 South to exit 261A (on the left) onto I-59 North/I-20 East toward Gadsden/Atlanta. After a short distance, take exit 126A (on the right) onto Highway 280 East. Travel 2.8 miles and exit at 21st Avenue South. Turn right onto 21st Avenue South and travel .4 miles. Vulcan Park and Museum entrance is on your right immediately upon crossing the four way intersection of 21st Avenue and Richard Arrington Boulevard.

Traveling I-59 /I-20 (from Tuscaloosa):

Take I-59 North /I-20 East to exit 126A onto Highway 280 East. Follow above from Huntsville.

Traveling I-59 /I-20 (from Gadsden/Anniston):

Take I-59 South / I-20 West to exit 126A onto Highway 280 East. Follow above from Huntsville.

Traveling Highway 280 (from Auburn):

Take Highway 280 West. Follow signs for Highway 31 South – Montgomery, Homewood (stay left, do not get onto Expressway). Follow the sign for Homewood to a dead end. Turn right at the dead end onto 18th Street South. Stay on 18th Street South to the intersection of Valley Avenue and Richard Arrington Boulevard. Turn left on Valley and immediately turn right into the entrance to Vulcan Park and Museum.
